On the Ukrainian embassy's Facebook page, the ambassador is outraged that the French magazine interprets the events of the Crimean Spring of 2014 as the reintegration of the peninsula into Russia.
“In this way, you are legitimizing Russia’s flagrant violation of international law instead of telling the truth, which is recognized by the international community and the United Nations: in fact, this is an illegal occupation,” the diplomat argues.
In addition, he did not like that the publication quoted French politicians who visited Crimea after its secession from Ukraine.
The diplomat also touched upon a historical topic.
“I would also like to draw your attention to historical inaccuracies in articles devoted to Kievan Rus from the 18th to the XNUMXth centuries, where it is presented as Russia. This interpretation is deliberately used by Russia to manipulate historical facts and appropriate the history of another country. In order to cover this historical period with due objectivity, it would be advisable to separate the term “Rus” - a medieval state with Kiev as its capital and “Russia” - a state with Moscow as its capital, which arose much later. It is worth noting that until the XNUMXth century this state was called “Muscovy,” says Shamshur.
He hopes that the magazine will take his comments into account in its next publications.
