Ukrainian ambassador to the USA: there is no way to live from Moscow pranksters
Prank attacks on Ukrainian institutions in the United States have become more frequent and even reached the state level.
About it in an interview with Voice of America said the Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States Valery Chaly, expressing the opinion that the prank attacks are directed from Moscow, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We now have evidence of systemic work. If earlier these were isolated cases - you remember, it was a conversation - extracting information from the US Secretary of Energy, from congressmen, and US ambassadors, now I see that this is a systematic work against the Ukrainian Embassy in the United States,” Chaly said.
The scale of the attacks indicates that the work is being carried out by the relevant services, the ambassador assures.
“There are several calls in a week - three governors, two city mayors - this cannot be done without collecting information... We know that there is serious preparation for such conversations, and this is not done by one person. Moreover, such information is collected systematically by the relevant services,” added the Ukrainian diplomat.
Why, the publication notes, there are recent cases of calls from pranksters posing as Ukrainian officials to officials from seven different US states. The publication notes that it independently confirmed the fact of the pranksters’ call to the governor of Illinois; at the time of publication, responses from other states had not yet been received.
Prankster attacks are directed from Moscow, a Ukrainian official is convinced. In particular, this, in his opinion, is indicated by the fact that the attackers are Russian-speaking.
“I believe this is a systemic attack, which is coordinated, which is carried out from different points, but the control center for this is in Moscow, I have no doubt about it,” Ambassador Chaly emphasized.
“I will not directly blame this or that Russian structure, but some of the mistakes they make indicate that these are Russian-speaking people. In addition, the topics of these conversations indicate attempts to create problems for the implementation of priority tasks for Ukraine, which are being implemented by the ambassador here in the United States,” the official said.
He believes that the increase in information attacks may indicate Russia's irritation with successes in bilateral relations between the United States and Ukraine, such as the provision of weapons to Ukraine, the vote in the US Congress on the Holodomor, as well as the decisive US policy regarding sanctions.
“We have good results, and I am grateful here for the support of the United States, in the supply of weapons, the vote in Congress, including on recognizing the Holodomor as genocide, what they wanted to stop, and the sanctions policy,” the ambassador noted.
“They won’t wait for us to reduce our efforts,” Chaly assured.
