Ukrainian shame: Steinmeier was shown the ruins near Slavyansk, with which Kyiv has been unable to do anything for more than two years
Foreign Ministers of France Jean Ayrault and Germany Frank Steinmeier were taken to Kramatorsk and Slavyansk yesterday in order, as Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin said, “to add additional emotions to our European friends,” Moskovsky Komsomolets reports.

“Local residents joke that now at least the reason for the two-year extension for the repair of the destroyed Semenovsky Bridge has become clear,” the publication says. – Contrary to general opinion, Slavyansk was not destroyed in 2014, and some damaged houses were restored under the previous mayor, Oleg Zontov. But the suburban village of Slavyansk Semenovka, where the main positions of the militia were, was simply swept off the face of the earth by artillery during the fighting.
The bridge on the Kharkov-Rostov highway is the main attraction of the northern part of Donbass. It still stands with collapsed farms, and crossing the river is carried out on a pontoon bridge and a dirt detour driven by trucks and armored personnel carriers. Further, behind the bridge, along the road, there is a picturesque view of destroyed private houses, a greenhouse and a workshop for the production of garden souvenirs. Against the background of the ruins, traders stand and continue to sell typical porcelain German gnomes, bright turtles and hedgehogs with mushrooms.”
“The view here is very menacing and crazy - there is a complete feeling that you are in a war zone,” the publication continues. – And this view is very local. Because to view another such destroyed place in the Donetsk region, European ministers would have to ask permission from the authorities of the self-proclaimed republic. This place is in Donetsk, on the ruins of the Putilovsky Bridge under the airport. But there are no dwarves there, and they still shoot periodically, and near Slavyansk the war ended more than two years ago. The local authorities have already rebuilt the school in Semenovka and patched up all the houses, but they cannot touch large state-owned facilities... We can say that the place, because of which Governor Zhebrivsky could well resign in shame, has suddenly become a profitable international attraction.”
In addition, when European guests arrived in Kramatorsk to meet with members of the OSCE special monitoring mission, they were met here by a picket of 70 people assembled by the Patriot organization, which opposes the implementation of the Minsk agreements.
“However, the ministers did not come to the picket, but Pavel Klimkin and Irina Gerashchenko did,” reports MK.
The publication's correspondent also said that the OSCE mission in Donbass extended the rental of hotel rooms in Mariupol for another year.
“It seems that no one is expecting quick results,” sums up the author of the report.
