Ukrainian trade union leader: the increase in utility tariffs is a consequence of the IMF policy
The increase in the price of natural gas for the population and the growth of utility bills will continue this year and in the near future, although a significant part of the population of Ukraine receives poverty wages.
The head of the independent trade union of miners of Ukraine, Mikhail Volynets, stated this on air on the ZIK TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Utility bills will increase this year, in 2020, in 2021. According to the agreement between the Ukrainian government and the IMF, it is planned to raise natural gas prices by 15% this year and by 12% next year. Naturally, this will entail an increase in prices for all energy resources and an increase in utility bills.
It is abnormal when pensions are low, when the salaries of a quarter of workers in Ukraine are below UAH 2000, at the subsistence level or even lower. How can you understand when the cost of living is two times lower than the minimum wage, and people are paid wages below the subsistence level? There is a very large stratification of living standards, for example, Mr. Kravtsov, the head of the board of Ukrzaliznytsia, has a salary of 1 million 200 thousand UAH, which is more than 55 thousand dollars a month. A well-fed person does not understand a hungry person,” he said.
