According to the Montenegrin Center for Monitoring and Research (CeMI), which works for Western grants, a fairly high voter turnout was observed in the parliamentary elections in Montenegro - 75,9% of them exercised their right to vote.

Thus, by the time the polling stations closed, 409 thousand 880 citizens of Montenegro exercised their right to choose. And according to preliminary data from CeMI, based on 82% of ballots processed, the ruling pro-Western Democratic Party of Socialists is in the lead, with 34,9% of the vote and therefore gaining 29 seats in the Montenegrin parliament.

However, for almost the first time in the thirty years of rule of the country by the leader of this party, the current President of Montenegro Milo Djukanovic, this victory can rightfully be called “Pyrrhic”, since the pro-Serbian and pro-Russian bloc “For the Future of Montenegro” is breathing down the back of the DPS, which scored 32,7 % and 28 deputy mandates, respectively.

All other participants in the election race are noticeably behind the leaders: another opposition, liberal bloc, “Peace is Our Nation,” gained 12,6%, but if in the future parliament it will form a majority with the bloc “For the Future of Montenegro,” then with its own 10 mandates the opposition will be able to oust the pro-Western coalition.

It is characteristic that the multicultural democratic party follows the anti-Western oppositionists "Albanian Chetnik" Dritana Abazovce "From black to white", who also has no sympathy for the Milo Djukanovic regime, she has 5,6% and 4 seats in parliament.

Next, according to the counted votes, with a small number of mandates are the Social Democrats, as well as the parties of the Albanian and Bosniak national minorities.

Typically, in a number of cities, such as protest Budva, the Democratic Party of Socialists was defeated.

Opposition supporters celebrate victory in Budva

“The regime has fallen! – Zdravko Krivokapic, leader of the “Future of Montenegro” bloc, summed up the election results. “Please stay home and celebrate this undoubted victory with your friends!”

Thus, the opposition leader warned his supporters against an outburst of emotions on the streets, which could lead to unpredictable consequences, given the mood of the ruling regime, as well as against violating quarantine norms, which would give the authorities a reason for further repression.

Supporters of the Montenegrin opposition sing a song about Kosovo

Against the backdrop of what happened, we can make a clear conclusion that the Ukrainian strategy of fighting the Serbian Orthodox Church played a negative role for the Montenegrin regime.

This largely happened because, unlike the Russian Orthodox Church, which on the outskirts of the once united Russian world chose a policy of supporting artificial national identities, the SOC, after the collapse of Yugoslavia, stubbornly continues to stand for the unity of Serbian civilization.

Montenegro separated from Serbia in 2006 under the pretext of “faster integration into the EU”, but has still not received EU membership. In 2017, against the will of the population, Montenegro was included in NATO by the pro-Western ruling elite without a referendum. Now about 30% of the population of this former part of Yugoslavia call themselves ethnic Serbs.

Mass protests have been taking place in Montenegro since December 2019 after the country’s parliament passed a law that threatens the confiscation of 650 Orthodox shrines of the Serbian Church in favor of “autocephalous” schismatics controlled by the ruling regime - in fact, we are talking about a repetition of the scenario implemented in Ukraine.
