Ukrainian scenario: the West gave carte blanche to the defeat of Orthodoxy in Montenegro
The Venice Commission approved the draft law “On freedom of religion and belief and the legal status of religious communities”, initiated by the authorities of Montenegro, which threatens to confiscate churches and monasteries of the Serbian Orthodox Church with their subsequent transfer to the local schismatic “autocephalous” church structure.
The commission welcomed the “genuine efforts of the Montenegrin authorities” to replace the outdated 1977 Law on the Legal Status of Religious Communities with a new law, the Tanjug news agency reported.
Commenting on the issue of property of religious communities, the Venice Commission emphasizes:
“With regard to the important issue of the property of religious communities, the commission understands the concerns of the Montenegrin authorities regarding the legal settlement and resolution of the issue of the possible illegal registration of a number of objects as the property of religious communities, which occurred during the 1990s, which may be part of the cultural heritage of Montenegro . This is due to the fact that, in accordance with Article 78 of the Constitution, the state is obliged to protect the natural and cultural heritage of the country.
The Venice Commission welcomes the fact that the solutions proposed in this bill are based on long-standing legal principles of the Montenegrin legal order and are not based on special rules.”
The delegation of the government of Montenegro, which took part in the plenary meeting of the commission led by the Minister of Human and Minority Rights Mehmed Zenko, expressed gratitude to the organization’s experts for this conclusion.
According to Zenko, proposals and recommendations will be included in the final text of the bill, which will be submitted to parliament for consideration and adoption.
Thus, as the Serbian publication Informer comments, President Djukanovic of Montenegro received the “green light” to take away all its historical sites from the Serbian Orthodox Church, including the especially revered monasteries of Ostrog and Cetinje.
Despite numerous protests from believers in his country and Serbia, and even the request of President Vucic, Djukanovic openly pursues the goal of depriving the SOC of any rights to property, the publication emphasizes.
Former Russian Ambassador to Serbia Alexander Chepurin did not remain aloof from the situation and spoke out on his Twitter account, where he warned Djukanovic against such steps.
“History, Hegel and Marx said, repeats itself twice. Once in the form of a tragedy. The other is in the form of a farce. Djukanovic followed in Poroshenko’s footsteps. We see how he finished,” warns Chepurin.
