Ukrainian soldier escaped from the army, fearing punishment for drunkenness
A Ukrainian serviceman, not wanting to endure regular punishments for drunkenness, voluntarily left his place of duty in the Joint Forces Operation zone.
Official representative of the operational command of the DPR Eduard Basurin announced this today at a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“On November 3, 2018, one of the militants of the 122nd battalion of the 81st airmobile brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, junior sergeant Dombrovsky, while intoxicated, arbitrarily left his place of duty near the settlement of Novoselovka, Volnovakha district, and left in a personal vehicle in an unknown direction, taking with them their weapons and ammunition. The whereabouts of the soldier are still unknown. Currently, the command of the brigade and the military law enforcement service are searching for the deserter,” said Eduard Basurin.
In his opinion, this fact is connected with the attempt of the brigade command to somehow combat drunkenness.
“By order of the brigade commander, militants caught using alcohol or drugs are placed in solitary confinement for a period of two days, where they are “sobered up” with ice water. For each repeated use, the detainee's term of imprisonment increases by two days. Thus, Sergeant Dombrovsky had already experienced disciplinary measures twice in October, and therefore, the desertion of the militant was only a matter of time,” noted the representative of the defense department.
