“The market is simply dumbfounded,” Ivan Petukhov, vice-president of the Ukrainian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs for Information Technology, commented on Petro Poroshenko’s decree banning Russian Internet services in an interview with the Ukrainian newspaper Den.

“Right now the market is just dumbfounded. He waits and thinks how to react. In practice, it is impossible for providers to implement this solution. We explained to the authorities that simply blocking web addresses will not change anything. Tomorrow another address is registered, and within 48 hours it spreads throughout the network, receives its announcements and works. In addition, this will create a probable corruption component for the intelligence services. Ukraine may find itself in a situation where within six months there will be only a few providers left in the country who will supposedly be able to implement this decision. Others won't be able to. They will probably be put under pressure and blackmailed. I’ll say this: these bans can start the process of destroying the IT sector,” the expert said.
