Ukrainian military diplomat rejoiced at the military might of the “brotherly country”
The military attache of Ukraine in Belarus, Alexander Balyuta, visited the Russian-Belarusian exercise “Union Resolve 2022” as an observer and talked with journalists.
The defense ministers of Ukraine and Belarus previously agreed on this by telephone, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The Ukrainian side was forced to contact the Belarusian military department by the need to reduce panic in society around the “imminent invasion”, which was fanned by Western politicians and the media.
“Many thanks to the Belarusian minister. There is understanding, there are prospects. There is hope that the incident will be lifted and the fraternal countries will move on normally. As Mr. Lukashenko said, we will travel to each other on tractors,” Balyuta said.
He said that Ukraine does not see a threat from Belarus, “but there are others.”
“We are not worried about joint exercises. We just look and rejoice that your army is developed and knows how to fight, defend its interests, its sovereignty. This is very important,” Baluta said.
At the same time, the defense attaché at the Belarusian Embassy in Ukraine, Colonel Igor Shmatok, took part in the Day of Honored Guests as part of the Metel-2022 exercise, which takes place on the territory of Ukraine.
“This step was taken within the framework of agreements between the Belarusian and Ukrainian defense departments aimed at increasing transparency and trust between the two neighboring states and reducing tension in the region,” the Belarusian Ministry of Defense noted.
