The Ukrainian “hawk” was unexpectedly skeptical about Zelensky’s warm welcome in the United States
The visit of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to the United States should be assessed not by the applause in Congress, but by what weapons will actually be supplied after this.
Former Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States Valeriy Chaly stated this on the air of the Lvov NTA TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Chaly recalled that the now ex-President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko was also “patted on the shoulder” in 2015, but then things did not go beyond words.
“I’m not in the mainstream, I’m realistic, because I myself prepared such a visit at one time, and there was also applause for the former president in Congress, much more than the current one, by the way. And then everyone wrote, the whole press wrote: American, Ukrainian, “It was just a break, this is a war of the Ukrainian people.” The same thing happened in '15. Same story.
But you know why I'm not so optimistic. And we managed to knock out Javelins, the first truly lethal weapon, a few years later, and not after this speech in Congress. And it was hard daily work and, if you like, the use of very difficult mechanisms in the Congress-White House-military-industrial complex triangle.
Therefore, let’s wait for the results - just applause and pats on the shoulder - this is very good, but let’s see what happens at the front!” – said Chaly.
Thank you!
