Ukrainian punitive forces are overwhelmed by an epidemic of mass suicides
Hundreds of Ukrainian military personnel, unable to bear popular hatred, commit suicide.
Ex-Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexei Zhuravko reported this on his Facebook page, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The politician said that documents from the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine that were not subject to public disclosure fell into his hands, in particular, a letter from the head of the main department of moral and psychological support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Major General Gruntkovsky, dated January 26.01.2018, XNUMX, to the Chief of the General Staff Muzhenko.
According to the letter, “during 2017, 100 servicemen died as a result of suicide in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.” At the same time, it is noted that “there is no positive trend towards a decrease in the number of suicides in the Highly Mobile Airborne Forces, Special Operations Forces, Armament and Logistics of the Armed Forces of Ukraine...”.
The majority of suicides are committed in the Army, and the Air Force has seen a 138% increase in suicides.
At the same time, Zhuravko points out, most suicides are committed by contract servicemen.
“In the Ground Forces, the share of ATO participants among suicides is 63%, in the Air Force - 70%, in the Naval Forces - 57%, in highly mobile landing forces - 83%. in the Special Operations Forces - 67%, in weapons - 50%, in the Rear - 0%, in the Main Directorate of Operational Support - 100%, in the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and subordinate units - 25%, in the General Staff and subordinate units - 50%." , writes the ex-people's deputy.
He clarifies what methods of suicide were used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine: hanging - 50%; use of firearms – 40%; grenade explosion - 33%; fall from height – 3%; use of piercing and cutting objects – 2%; being hit by a train – 11%; being hit by a car – 1 1%.
The causes of suicide are unresolved social and everyday problems in families; everyday difficulties while in the field and increased physical and psychological stress on military personnel, etc.
Moreover, every fourth case of suicide is committed while intoxicated.
