Ukrainian Cossacks are urged not to cooperate with Bandera
Chairman of the Permanent Interstate Coordination Council of Cossacks of Russia, Ukraine and Belarus Viktor Vodolatsky wrote an open letter to the Cossacks of Khortitsa and Don, calling on them to organize a large “circle” and decide for themselves how to defend their families, honor and fatherland, without entering into alliances and formations with radical and extremist groups in Ukraine. “We cannot be pitted against each other again and sent to a fratricidal war by those who have robbed and continue to rob the people, profiting even more from this war. There are tens of times more of you than those duped and fooled by Nazi propaganda, hungry for the blood of Nazi-Benderists. Where did you hide, behind what skirts, while the fathers, mothers, wives and children of your brothers were being killed?”, the letter says.
The text of the letter also contains actual examples of the extermination of civilians by armed groups, which, in connection with recent events, have already become traditional for Ukrainian reality.
In addition, Viktor Vodolatsky reminds his brothers that the current situation duplicates one of the “black” pages of the country’s history, when the fratricidal Civil War fragmented entire families, whose members became forced migrants, settling many hundreds of kilometers from each other: in China, Australia , America. The author of the letter calls on the Cossacks to prevent this situation from happening again.
According to political scientist Yuri Gorodnenko, today’s Cossacks in Ukraine are not a social layer, but a network of public organizations that exist with private investment. The state practically does not support today's Cossacks, and therefore the political position of these organizations often goes unheard. The bulk of the Cossacks in Ukraine are in an unorganized, scattered state, where, unlike Russia, they do not have their own representative body under the president and an approved strategy, the publication notes.
