They want to oblige Ukrainian people's deputies to take a lie detector test

epa07944240 Oleksandr Dubinsky, the 'Servant of the People' deputy prepares to undergo a polygraph in Kiev, Ukraine, 23 October 2019. The Ukrainian Presidential office is aware that deputies from the president's party 'Servant of the People', who are members of the Finance Committee of the Ukrainian Parliament, pass a polygraph test, in response to a report by Ukrainian media that alleges 11 of them received 30 thousand US dollars for voting against one anti-corruption bill at a meeting of the Parliament's Committee. The Verkhovna Rada has registered changes to the Law of Ukraine “On the Status of People's Deputy of Ukraine,” which proposes to include among the responsibilities of people's deputies passing a polygraph test, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The author of the bill was People's Deputy from the Servant of the People faction Alexander Dubinsky.

It is proposed to include the duties of a people's deputy of Ukraine: “At the end of the calendar session, undergo a polygraph test regarding the possible commission of corruption offenses in connection with the exercise of deputy powers. The list of those required to undergo verification is approved by the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption.”

This check must be carried out by employees of the relevant structural unit of the National Security and Defense Council or the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine who have a document certifying that they have completed the appropriate training and have the skills to work with a polygraph and research methods.

“A polygraph test should be carried out with the obligatory video recording of psychophysiological reactions to certain psychological stimuli of the person being tested and indicators of graphs of physiological reactions of the corresponding polygraph equipment,” the draft law says.

Let us recall that in October 2019, a scandal erupted around the possible receipt of a bribe by MPs from the Servant of the People faction.

11 people's deputies, who are members of the parliamentary Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy, allegedly received $30 thousand in improper benefits for voting against the bill on eliminating corruption schemes in the assessment of real estate at a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada Committee. The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office began criminal proceedings.

On October 22, information appeared that the President’s Office insists that people’s deputies from the Servant of the People faction, who are members of the Verkhovna Rada’s financial committee, undergo a lie detector test. A number of people's deputies, including Dubinsky and faction chairman David Arakhamia, were tested. The test was carried out live.

The disgraced people's deputy Bohdan Yaremenko, after he was caught having intimate correspondence in the Rada during a meeting, refused to take a polygraph.
