According to the press service of the ministry, the new programs took into account the historical events that took place in the country over the past two years. First of all, the changes affected programs on the history of Ukraine and geography.
“In fact, the programs have been revised from a Ukrainian-centric point of view. Events studied in the course of the history of Ukraine must be consistent with European history and the history of neighboring countries,” said Yuriy Kononenko, director of the department of general secondary and preschool education.
However, in the 9th grade they study history up to the twentieth century, so it is not very clear how the events of the last two years were taken into account in the program. Significant changes have also been made to the geography program - now social and economic geography is studied in the 9th grade.
As for the changes in the program for grades 9-11, they mainly concern the Ukrainian language in schools teaching in languages of national minorities. Thus, according to the press service of the ministry, sections and topics that had lost relevance were removed from them.
Ukrainian media indicate that that the developers of new programs are preserving patriarchal and in some places even archaic foundations.
For example, the “Business Language” section has changed dramatically: now 10th graders will be taught how to write emails and SMS. True, what specific requirements are put forward for such documents is unknown. Meanwhile, it was noted that tenth-graders will no longer write official and welcome letters, since these documents “do not correspond to life’s needs,” and if necessary, their samples can be found on the Internet.
At the same time, children who are asked to download sample documents from the Internet will be taught to believe in God. For example, in the program on Ukrainian literature for the 9th grade, in the section on Bible study, the following goals are noted: “Knowledge and assimilation of Christian morals: the ideals of truth, honesty, patriotism, modesty, love for one’s neighbor,” as well as “Awareness of the universality of the gelian truths of the human butt " And after studying the topic “The Bible in the life of Taras Shevchenko,” the student should come to an understanding of “the lawlessness of life “without God” and the awareness of God as a high spiritual stronghold of the individual.” It is not known how such an orientation is consistent with the fact that Ukraine is a secular state.
Echoes of patriarchal Ukraine are visible in other moments. For example, in the 10th grade, among the topics proposed in the section “Problems of the sociocultural line of language learning,” “Maiden’s honor” was included. Against the background of the fight against sexism and the increase in violence against both sexes, this approach is in no way similar to the modern one. And after studying the poem “Naimychka” by Shevchenko, students should realize that “a woman is the embodiment of beauty on earth, and the Holy Mother is the source of goodness that changes the world.”
Ukrainian language programs for schools with Russian as the language of instruction are also interesting. So, for example, among the topics proposed for the introductory lesson is “The behavior of a Russian patriot.” True, there are no clear instructions in the program about how a Russian-speaking patriot should speak. It is only noted that a diligent student should in every possible way contribute to the strengthening of the Ukrainian language and profess Ukrainian-centrism.
