Last week, the head of the Federal Migration Service announced that after adjusting the resettlement program for compatriots, Ukrainian refugees will be able to count on an accelerated procedure for obtaining citizenship.

The Federal Migration Service is preparing a draft presidential decree on the start of issuing so-called electronic passports from January 1, 2015, although this has not yet been formalized by law. The decree states that the Cabinet of Ministers is obliged to prepare a corresponding bill in the fall. The number of plastic cards with data on the owner – 300 thousand – coincides with expert estimates of the number of Ukrainian refugees in Russia.

According to the decree, the government is allowed to issue electronic passports in those regions where it deems it necessary, but Crimea, Sevastopol and the Rostov region are specifically named.
