A Pole will become the Ukrainian business ombudsman
The current member of the Polish parliament, Marcin Święcicki, will take the position of business ombudsman this fall instead of the Lithuanian Algirdas Szemeta, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Interfax-Ukraine reports this.
“Yesterday, at a meeting of the council (business ombudsman, SBO - Ed.), the candidacy of the future business ombudsman of Ukraine, Mr. Marcin Świeczycki, a current member of the Polish parliament, former mayor of Warsaw, as well as the former minister of international economic relations in the first government of Tadeusz Mazowiecki, was approved,” Shemeta said during a press conference in Kyiv on Wednesday.
According to him, Svenchitsky will begin work this fall.
In February, business ombudsman Algirdas Šemeta announced his decision not to renew his contract, which was due to expire in May 2019, but then agreed to remain in the position until October.
Previously, Shemeta served as Minister of Finance in the Government of Lithuania (1997-1999, 2008-2009), and also served as European Commissioner - first for financial programming and budget issues (2009-2010), then for taxation and customs issues , statistics, audit and anti-fraud (2010-2014).
The Cabinet of Ministers created the SBO as its permanent consultative and advisory body in 2014, and the EBRD allocated funds for its financing. At the end of the same year, Algirdas Shemeta was appointed business ombudsman to combat corruption in Ukraine. Previously, he served as EU Commissioner for Taxation, Customs, Statistics, Audit and Anti-Fraud.
