This was reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent with reference to the department’s press service.
“Since 2014, a private structure has been purchasing knee joints, components and modules for prosthetics from a Russian supplier. An inspection initiated by the Security Service of Ukraine found that products imported from the Russian Federation do not meet the requirements of state quality standards,” the security service’s website reports.
The components were sold to government agencies that specialize in the manufacture of prosthetics.
“According to experts, the use of low-quality components could pose a threat to the health of patients, most of whom are participants in the anti-terrorist operation,” the SBU added.
Law enforcement officers conducted searches in the supplier’s warehouse, production and office premises. Draft records of the company's manager and chief accountant, bank statements and other documents were discovered that proved the deliberate purchase and sale of inappropriate prosthetic products.
Criminal proceedings have been opened under Part 2 of Art. 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (abuse of official position). The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of three to six years.
