Ukrainian officials want to close the road to Crimea
The Verkhovna Rada is discussing behind the scenes a new bill banning Ukrainian officials from visiting Crimea “until the end of the occupation.”
Izvestia reported this, citing sources in the ruling coalition of the Ukrainian parliament.
“The document, which provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of three to eight years, was signed by the President of Ukraine on November 7. The next initiative of Kyiv legislators may already affect Ukrainian officials. The possibility of adopting a document is already being discussed, the effect of which will extend to government officials visiting the “occupied territories” and publicly speaking about the favorable situation on the peninsula,” the publication writes, conveying the opinion of representatives of the coalition.
It is clarified that this initiative has not yet been officially put forward.
“It is unacceptable when a person representing Ukraine travels to Crimea, which is occupied by an aggressor state. And after this they make statements that present Russia in a positive light. Now everything is at the stage of discussing the launch of work on the bill,” said the newspaper’s interlocutor.
Another source clarified that measures to counter “individual unpatriotic politicians are still being thought through.”
As PolitNavigator reported, this year Crimea broke a record for Ukrainians who came on vacation.
