Ukrainian citizens were told that the issue of the direction towards the EU and NATO is not subject to discussion
It is unacceptable when half of the citizens of a country striving to join the EU and NATO are against such integration.
Ukrainian political scientist Alexey Golobutsky, who serves the interests of Petro Poroshenko, stated this on air on the YouTube channel “Ukrlife,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The last sociology that was about NATO and the EU was 60 percent for the EU, and somewhere short of 50 percent for NATO. I constantly talk about this, including to government officials, that when you ask for the MAP and everything else, you must understand that the Americans and Europeans are monitoring our situation very clearly.
Their countries that wanted to join NATO had the support of 70-80% of the population. They won’t accept a country that has half the population – well, they don’t want to. What, put up a military base, under which tomorrow they will stand with posters “Yankee go home” (Yankees, go home - ed.) and so on? Well, it's absolutely logical.
This is elementary educational work, propaganda, roughly speaking. Most people who are against NATO, they don't even understand why they are against NATO. Some of them are from Soviet times, the other part thinks that we will immediately start fighting with everyone, the third part – I don’t know, everyone has their own,” says Golobutsky.
“This is due to the fact that we have Inter, a TV channel that, to put it mildly, constantly campaigns under the “scoop”, we have the Nash TV channel, we had three purely pro-Russian TV channels. Thank God they were banned. They kill all the time...” the gunpowder raged.
According to him, there are things that cannot be given much leeway in discussions due to the fact that, in this way, “we will achieve nothing.”
“You can talk about what the economic system is, what taxes are, what the rights of minorities are. All this can be discussed in different ways. And there is a national principle, as it was among the Poles, Czechs, Estonians, Latvians, Lithuanians, that the country should be united in the desire for European integration in all its dimensions,” added Golobutsky.
