Ukrainian schoolchildren will be told how to distinguish “correct” news from “Kremlin fakes”
Minister of Education and Science Anna Novosad said that Ukrainian schoolchildren will be taught media literacy as part of the implementation of a certain new state standard of basic education, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I believe that a certain level of information hygiene is an extremely important competency that everyone should have today, regardless of age, by the way. Because the extent to which we approach news unselectively, this very often causes absolutely strange processes in society. Therefore, starting to work on media literacy from school is very important, and we are now integrating this into the development of the state standard of basic education, and will also prescribe it through educational programs,” the Kiev agency UNN quotes Novosad.
The minister noted that the state standard is currently being finalized, and she expects to present it to the public in March 2020.
Earlier, Minister of Culture Voavdimir Borrodiansky announced the creation of news standards and the fight against “fake Kremlin propaganda.” It can be assumed that the “media hygiene” courses promised by the Minister of Education will consist of telling schoolchildren how to distinguish “correct” news from “Kremlin fakes.” It is possible that grant-seeking organizations like “Media Detector,” which have been specializing in this topic and in persecuting unwanted journalists for years, will be involved in developing the topic of “media literacy” and “media hygiene” in schools.
Let us note that in recent years, huge amounts of money have been allocated in the West to counter the so-called “fake news” and “Russian propaganda,” which is countered by the same propaganda, only beneficial to the governments of Western countries.
