First Deputy Minister of Justice Natalya Sevostyanova told reporters about this during a tour of the detention center.
“The oldest building was built in 1863. Another building from 1909. You all know about the conditions in which people await a court verdict. Have you seen that sewer system that hardly works... On average, the detention center is designed for 2,5 thousand people, but there were years when the cells were overcrowded. Some have to wait here for a sentence for more than one year,” the official said.
The First Deputy Minister of Justice also added that there are now four people in the detention center who have been waiting for a court verdict for more than four years.
In total, there are 2058 people in the Lukyanovsky pre-trial detention center, of which 15 are minors and 135 are women.
