The Ukrainian state has abandoned social obligations to citizens

Against the backdrop of the collapse of the Ukrainian economy, the state abandoned its social obligations, which, in particular, resulted in an increase in tariffs.

Director of the Institute of Energy Research Dmitry Marunich stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Over the past two years, the state has simply withdrawn from the social contract with citizens. Against the background of the collapse of the economy, lowering social standards, devaluation, rise in price of everything and everything, the state is actually abandoning the principles declared in the Constitution,” the expert said.

At the same time, he added that the increase in tariffs for the population is only a special case of everything that happened.

“The hypothesis that the government and Western creditors initially had was that somewhere on the horizon of 2018-2019, real incomes of the population will begin to grow, the economy will stabilize and the number of people receiving subsidies should begin to decrease. A huge plus is that the price of energy resources in dollar terms has halved compared to 2013. But this hypothesis was not confirmed - the number of subsidies is growing. By the end of this year, about 75 billion UAH are needed. This is the same money that in 2013 the state spent on subsidizing Naftogaz. That is, nothing happened at the exit. Why? I have already said - devaluation, economic collapse, falling incomes. Plus the reluctance of subjects to leave the shadow economy,” Marunich concluded.
