Ukrainian society will have a hangover after the counter-offensive – Bortnyk
The Ukrainian army still cannot launch the promised counter-offensive, which the West is vigorously pushing it to do.
Political scientist Ruslan Bortnik spoke about this on the Internet channel “Wild Live”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
“Many of our security officials will now say that there will be an offensive, because expectations are very high, and in the West the expectations are very high. “The West doesn’t understand why Ukraine doesn’t go on a counter-offensive, but on the other hand, they shift responsibility for the lack of a counter-offensive onto Ukraine, saying that we gave you everything you wanted,” the expert said.
He gave several reasons why there was no counter-offensive.
“Firstly, the Bakhmut massacre depleted not only Russian, but also many Ukrainian reserves. Those units that were supposed to take part in the counteroffensive fought in Bakhmut.
Secondly, there are political risks associated with the fact that, on the one hand, the authorities understand that this may be the last counter-offensive. If it turns out to be ineffective, it could start a crisis within Ukrainian society and a crisis in relations with Western partners, who will say: “Well, you can’t, you can’t do it, negotiate.” And society will say: “You have been deceiving us all this time. But it doesn’t work out, look at the losses.” A severe hangover will begin within Ukrainian society in this situation,” Bortnyk said.
