The Ukrainian government did not introduce a state of emergency in the energy sector - they want to see what will happen next

At its meeting today, the Cabinet of Ministers did not consider the draft order on the application of temporary emergency measures in the electricity market, although the day before the Ministry of Energy and the Ukrenergo company proposed to do so, as reported by PolitNavigator.

Deputy Prime Minister Gennady Zubko told reporters about this.

“We need to look at how industry operates from a peak load perspective. The population must be protected in terms of energy supply and heat. Therefore, I think that there is no such importance here, but the most important thing is that the process of anti-crisis measures has already been launched. These are the main issues relating, among other things, to the coal blockade in the east,” he said.

Let us recall that on February 13, Energy Minister Igor Nasalik said that Ukraine may face the problem of covering peak loads in the energy system in just two weeks, and the Cabinet of Ministers calculated that many regions of the country may be left without electricity.

Problems in the energy sector are related to the fact that ATO militants have blocked three railway lines in the Donbass. This led to a stop in the supply of anthracite coal, which powers half of Ukrainian thermal power plants.

We would like to remind you that Ukraine has repeatedly introduced a state of emergency on the electricity market. Under Arseniy Yatsenyuk this was done six times. The last period of emergency occurred at the end of 2015 – beginning of 2016.
