A Ukrainian village on the border with Crimea rebelled against the Majlis
The village council of Novoalekseevka, located on the Ukrainian side near the border with Russian Crimea, refused to hang the Majlis flag next to the administration building.
Propagandist Aider Muzhdabaev stated this on air on the ATR TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Muzhdabaev, the head of the village council, Alexander Burkovsky, explained this by saying that according to the legislation of Ukraine, only the state flag can be hung on administrative buildings.
This angered the Mejlis members, many of whom live here after fleeing Russian Crimea, and they threatened Burkovsky with “political responsibility.”
“There was only one place in Ukraine that categorically refused, even on the day of the Crimean Tatar flag, not to mention constantly, to hang the Crimean Tatar flag on its flagpole next to the state flag as a sign of solidarity with our struggle for the return of Crimea to Ukraine. This is the Novoalekseevsky village council...
The Kherson regional Mejlis appealed to the head of this village of Novoalekseevka, which is located right on the border with occupied Crimea, Mr. Alexander Burkovsky, with a request to hang the Crimean Tatar flag on flag day next to the state one, as is done throughout Ukraine in many places and diplomatic missions.
To which the head of the village council, Comrade Alexander Burkovsky, answered categorically no, no and no.
From the moment when the “revolution of dignity” won in Ukraine, from the moment when Crimea fell into temporary occupation, when Russian tanks entered there, there has been such a slogan - “two flags, one country.” Under this slogan, everywhere - both in Kyiv and in other places, every year on June 26th there are flag raisings and rallies in which we say that we will never forget, we will not forgive and we will return Crimea to Ukraine.
Apparently, you do not share this point of view, judging by your attitude towards the Crimean Tatars.
But your situation is complicated by one small circumstance. The fact is that, dear Alexander Burkovsky, head of the village council of Novoalekseevka, several thousand Crimean Tatars live in your settlement entrusted to you...
This is the only settlement in Ukraine where half of the population is Crimean Tatars. I want to assure you, Comrade Burkovsky, that these people will not leave you with your demarche in relation to our flag, in relation to the flag of the indigenous people of Ukraine, and you will receive yours, a political response to this from our people, from the Majlis,” Muzhdabaev threatened.
The incident indicates that residents of the Kherson region are not delighted with Kyiv’s promises to create, with the support of Turkey, a special town for Mejlis members - “a place of compact residence.”
Ex-Verkhovna Rada deputy from the Kherson region Alexey Zhuravko told PolitNavigator about this. The politician emphasized that the situation is not at all what Muzhdabaev is trying to imagine.
“This shows that the idea of a Tatar republic imposed on them in the Kherson region is the delirium of a madman,” Zhuravko said.
He expressed bewilderment why Muzhdabaev demands that the village mayor violate the law on symbols to please the demands of the Mejlis members. Zhuravko also drew attention to the fact that on the territory of Crimea, Tatars freely display their national flag, but on their personal territory - in cars, shops, gas stations.
“You can call him a rooster that crows the same thing. The Crimean Tatar people live happily and beautifully in Crimea. There are Tatar flags everywhere, since this is their homeland, and no one forbids it. He once again confirmed that in Ukraine the Tatars are treated worse than in Crimea,” Zhuravko said.
