Ukrainian TV: Lukashenko for the first time faces the prospect of losing power
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko may lose power if he continues to ignore the full implementation of the Union Treaty with Russia. International affairs expert Andrei Karakuts stated this on the air of the Ukrainian TV channel “Nash,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Belarus is in a dangerous phase. Next year there will be elections, and Russia will become more active. For the first time, Lukashenko faces the prospect of losing power. Russia begins economic pressure. We know about the increase in oil and gas prices. While pressing economically, Russia puts forward certain political demands. If Lukashenko does not make concessions, we can expect any scenarios,” says Karakuts.
In his opinion, a scenario is likely in which Russia will support its candidate.
“These could be some people from the security agencies, behind whom Russian information resources will stand. There may be some industrialists. That is, Lukashenko, having no competition in the previous elections, for the first time may face powerful players, behind whom Russia will stand,” said the Ukrainian expert.
