Ukrainian theft is disguised behind accusations of Russians in fires near Lugansk
Accusations of “Russian mercenaries” of arson and large-scale fires on the outskirts of Lugansk, where the Ukrainian army has to withdraw from positions due to fire, are in fact a consequence not of sabotage, but of Ukrainian corruption.
The dismissal of corrupt heads of the Ministry of Emergency Situations several years ago was not a real reform; corruption schemes persisted and now money continues to be stolen. Suffice it to recall the recent fires in the Chernobyl zone, after which nothing changed either. Political scientist Vasily Vakarov stated this on the NewsOne TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This was presented to us as a fight against corruption. But there was no fight against corruption. They were fired and their friends were put in their place. The corruption scheme has existed and has not gone away. And the money that was allocated over the next years was stolen.
And we see the consequences of theft. Remember April of this year, the fires around the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. And what the leaders of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the fire service did was to go and assure us that the fires would be extinguished and the problem would go away.
But I have the impression that nothing is being done now either. And we have the consequences of not just underfunding in the field of fire services, but also the theft of this money. They don’t reach places,” the expert said.
