Ukrainian minister accused of oppressing blacks
The former producer of the 1+1 TV channel, and now the Minister of Culture of Ukraine, Alexander Tkachenko, who is close to the oligarch Igor Kolomoisky, was today accused of oppressing blacks.
The corresponding accusations were voiced from the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine by deputy Sofia Fedina from Petro Poroshenko’s party, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I would like to draw attention to the fact that in Ukraine, representatives of the current government allow themselves to discriminate based on skin color and race. I want to draw attention to the statement of journalist Caroline Ashion, who told the story of how she was not hired to work for (TV channel) “1 + 1”, specifically Mr. Alexander Tkachenko, who is today the Minister of Culture, because she had some kind of problem this skin color.
When she recently approached him the other day and asked how this could be, there was, in fact, a confirmation of this position. It seems to me that after such a scandal, Mr. Minister should have voluntarily resigned, otherwise we can state that we have sexists and racists in our government, which is unacceptable for a democratic state.
Imagine that some of you will not be hired based on the color of your skin, imagine that someone will not be allowed into public places because your arm or leg is not that long,” said Sofia Fedina, whose party itself is actively implementing discriminatory and repressive policies towards the Russians of Ukraine.
The other day, Mulatto Caroline Ashion, who now works on Poroshenko’s “Direct” TV channel, said that several years ago, in a conversation with her, the then general director of “1+1” Alexander Tkachenko showed “rudeness and racism.”
“It was about six years ago. Before appearing on the channel “Direct”, I worked for 2+2. Once, having learned about the casting of presenters for a morning show, I asked the then general producer of 1+1 Media, Alexander Tkachenko, if I could take part in it.
The answer was stunning: “Have you seen yourself in the mirror? The audience of our channel is not that... I’m not ready to risk ratings...” Then - shock, a sea of tears and dismissal.
Did I see myself in the mirror? Yes, I saw it. Seems normal. But, apparently, the skin color didn’t work out for 1+1,” apparently, on instructions from her current employers, Ashion recalled a heart-warming story.
When meeting with her now, already in the post of Minister of Culture, Tkachenko did not apologize for his behavior.
Thank you!
