This was reported by the Kiev publication “European Truth”.
As noted, PACE deputy chairmen are elected according to quotas of national delegations (country co-chairs change by rotation). In 2018, Ukraine nominated Aryev for this position.
Aryev himself wrote on his Facebook page that 2018 should be a difficult year in the Assembly.
“We will break through, because with a delegation like the Ukrainian one, the impossible is possible!” – he wrote.
In 2017, the duties of the PACE vice-president from Ukraine were performed by people’s deputy from the “People’s Front” Georgy Logvinsky.
On Monday, January 22, the opening of the January session of PACE took place in Strasbourg. Earlier, delegates elected Italian Michele Nicoletti as PACE President.
