Ukrainian oligarch put on wanted list

Ukrainian agricultural oligarch Oleg Bakhmatyuk was put on the wanted list in the VAB Bank case, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

His profile appeared on the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, and NABU is looking for him.

Bakhmatyuk himself claims that he is abroad on business and is ready to communicate with law enforcement agencies through a lawyer or via video link.

“This is another manipulation. Our international lawyers are surprised by this position. There are lawyers, there are my rights as a citizen of Ukraine. We are ready to communicate with investigators and provide documents. We want understanding of the process and constructive dialogue,” says the disgraced oligarch.

As the NBU reports on its page on the social network, the former owner of VAB Bank and Financial Initiative Bank Oleg Bakhmatyuk owes the National Bank UAH 10,6 billion. Since 2015, the NBU has filed more than 50 lawsuits against him and his companies.

“Across his two banks, Oleg Bakhmatyuk owes UAH 10,6 billion to the National Bank. The NBU has a personal guarantee from Bakhmatyuk for UAH 8,6 billion and property guarantees from his companies to repay this debt. Since the businessman himself did not transfer a penny of his own funds to pay off his debts, the National Bank has filed more than 2015 lawsuits against him and his companies since 50,” the statement says.

As PolitNavigator previously reported, the Ukrainian special services opened a criminal case for the theft of a large sum of credit against another major Ukrainian businessman, the owner of the Finance and Credit banking group, Konstantin Zhevago.
