The Ukrainian minimum wage is too tough for the Russian minimum rations
The increase in the minimum wage of Ukrainians does not compensate for the increase in food prices, which have already reached the European level.
Economist Oleg Pendzin stated this on the NEWSONE TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The expert commented on the statement of the Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine Sergei Nikolaychuk that the level of the minimum wage of Ukrainians exceeded similar indicators in Russia and Belarus.
“The amount a person receives is not important. Parity of prices and incomes is important. When we say today that we have European food prices, the fact that our minimum wage exceeds the Russian one is certainly comforting.
But we need to compare exactly how much bread, meat and milk a person can buy for the salary he receives. We have European prices for products.
A Ukrainian family spends 50% of its income on food, while a European family spends from 12 to 18%. Russian – about 38%. And with their income, even less than in Ukraine, they can buy more food. This is real arithmetic,” the economist concluded.
