The Ukrainian “sea power” is over
In one generation, Ukrainians will only have memories that the country was once a maritime power and had its own navy. The ex-commander of the Ukrainian Navy, Sergei Gaiduk, stated this in an interview with Hayat radio, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, today Ukraine does not have any plan for the development of its naval forces.

“If this issue is not brought up for presidential and parliamentary elections, then Ukraine, as a maritime state, may cross the line, which will cause more than one generation to forget what maritime Ukraine is.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union, we received a potential that amounted to 30-40% of the maritime potential of the former Soviet Union - in terms of the economic component of the state's naval power.
Aircraft carriers and submarines were built at the shipbuilding enterprises of our country. In certain years, up to 100 – 120 vessels left the slipways of Ukrainian shipyards.
After the division of the Black Sea Fleet (1996), we received 140 pennants. Of these, 40 are warships and boats, 100 support vessels.
During the annexation of Crimea, we wrote off 65 for scrap metal, and only completed 5. Moreover, according to projects of the former Soviet Union.
This is an indicator of what we have in terms of a vectorless maritime policy,” laments Gaiduk.
