“I was in Georgia in 2000, I tried to get through Georgia to Chechnya. Since I was negotiating with the Chechens there, I spent two weeks in Georgia - these were the most terrible two weeks of my life. I, who came from comfortable Ukraine, to the absolutely collapsed country of Georgia, to Tbilisi, where there was no lighting, children broke bushes and warmed themselves on the street around fires. I have never seen such devastation anywhere before. Ukraine, in comparison, was the height of civilization, the height of comfortable life.
After that, I was in Georgia in 2008, four years have passed since Saakashvili became president, I saw Georgia, which is head and shoulders above Ukraine in terms of living standards, comfort, government programs, and the fight against corruption. On my first trip, border guards tried to rape me - even that happened. On my second trip, I encountered the actions of law enforcement agencies, which were simply ideal. I then went to the occupied territory of the Russian Federation in South Ossetia. I was getting out of the occupied territory onto some road, they were driving a car, saw a girl, stopped and helped as best they could. That is, the difference was simply colossal,” Chernovol said on Radio Liberty.
