Only Donbass coal will save the Ukrainian economy, – Zakharchenko

“The lack of a minimum supply of coal at Ukrainian thermal power plants can cause a chain reaction of the collapse of the entire energy system. We see that rolling blackouts have begun in Ukraine, the heating season is on the verge of collapse,” he said, commenting on the possibility and necessity of supplying Donbass coal to Ukraine.
“In fact, only Donbass or Russian coal can save the Ukrainian economy. Our territory contains 50% of Ukraine’s coal, and this amount of coal guarantees our energy security and speaks of Ukraine’s energy dependence, which is under threat. But Ukraine does not want to buy coal from us, preferring to fight with us or try to impose its own conditions,” Zakharchenko noted.
“What will happen if we don’t ship coal to them by train for another week, and we’ll see what the situation will be. I know that they have three or four days left, and should I tell them that in order for our economy to work normally, we need Uglegorsk and Debaltsevo? And then we’ll talk about Kurakhovo and Slavyansk? I am always ready for a constructive conversation, but for this it is necessary that the Ukrainian side adequately assess the situation,” he emphasized.
As PolitNavigator reported, Kiev intends to import gas, coal and electricity from Russia and other countries. In this case, Chairman of the Donetsk Regional State Administration Alexander Kikhtenko said that a number of Ukrainian thermal power plants need Donbass coal.
