This was stated by the head of the education department of the Simferopol City Council Tatyana Sukhina, the BBC Ukrainian service reports.
Three of the four classes of each parallel will be translated into Russian.
The official explained this step by the desire of the students’ parents. According to her information, 86% of parents decided to transfer their children to Russian as the language of instruction.
“Three classes with the Russian language of instruction and one class with the Ukrainian language of instruction will be created in parallel,” Tatyana Sukhina clarified.
As Navigator reported, hours of teaching the Ukrainian language will also be sharply reduced in neighboring Sevastopol.
“The teaching of the Ukrainian language, which was dominant before the referendum, will be reduced by half. That is, if previously 2-5 hours a week were allocated to it, now 7 hours are allocated to the Ukrainian language and 2 to Ukrainian literature,” Vladimir Oganesyan, head of the Sevastopol education department, said last Friday.
