The Ukrainian Communist Party is banned due to lawlessness, without a court decision

Kyiv, April 11 (PolitNavigator, Vladimir Raichenko) – Unlike post-Nazi Germany, in Ukraine there are no legal grounds for banning the Communist Party or communist ideology.

This opinion was expressed at a press conference in Kiev, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, by the director of the Ukrainian Politics Foundation, Kost Bondarenko, commenting on the adoption by the Verkhovna Rada of a law that prohibits communist ideology and the activities of parties whose names include the term “communist.”

“The Communist Party of Ukraine has simply ceased to be perceived as a serious political force today; in electoral terms, it no longer plays any important role and, accordingly, it can be painlessly banned,” the political scientist noted. – But the question is: on what basis? When they say that denazification took place in Germany after 45, they forget that it had a legal basis. There was a decision to recognize Nazi ideology and practice as criminal. The NSDP and the Nazi legacy were banned on the basis of some legal act. In our country, the Communist Party has not been recognized by the courts as a criminal organization, and therefore any parliamentary decision on this matter will be nothing more than a political act, difficult to explain from the point of view of law.”
