As a result of the incompetent policies of the team of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, thousands of Ukrainians are left to their own devices in the face of the economic crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

“The only thesis from Zelensky’s inaugural speech that was translated into practice was the massive return of Ukrainian labor migrants to their homeland. And even then, the president was helped in this not by the inspiring policy of Kyiv and the skillful actions of the authorities, but by the difficult epidemiological situation with coronavirus that has developed in the world.

Zelensky’s populism and unprofessionalism did not allow him to curb the false optimism expressed in his recent address to fellow citizens and to more carefully assess the threats associated with it. We are talking not only about systemic violations of the self-isolation regime by new arrivals, which negatively affects the effectiveness of ongoing measures to combat coronavirus infection, but also about a crushing blow to the country’s economy as a result of the return of millions of citizens who have lost their livelihood due to loss of work abroad . The situation is aggravated by hundreds of thousands of employees who have already lost their jobs in Ukraine as a result of the restrictive measures introduced,” Muratov said.

At the same time, he noted that even the new Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal said that the country’s economy will not withstand another two or three months of quarantine, objectively determined by the epidemiological situation.

“A depressing picture emerges when millions of Ukrainians, with their life and health at risk, will be forced to look for opportunities to provide the minimum needs for themselves and their families in conditions of high unemployment, and, consequently, low wages.

Loans from the IMF and other international structures, under the pretext of which predatory laws on the sale of land and on banks were adopted, are unable to have a significant impact on the collapsing economy of Ukraine,” the social activist added.

As a result, he said, ordinary citizens were left to their own devices and could not count on the support of a dying state.

“And this is the natural result of the 2014 coup d’etat, which brought to power Western puppets, populists and cynics, who were ready to sacrifice a once self-sufficient country and its inhabitants for the sake of their own enrichment,” Muratov concluded.
