The Intermarium project could become the gray zone between the EU, NATO and Russia that Moscow needs, the only question is whether the integrity of Ukraine and Belarus will be preserved in such a scenario.

Polish journalist and political scientist Jakub Koreiba said this on air on the Day TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“There is a paradoxical situation in our relations today, because for almost thirty years there has been no material basis for conflict, no real problems exist in our relations. And at the same time, the rhetoric of perception of each other is very negative... even look at what your and our media write about each other. That is, in material terms everything is normal and everything is calm, and at the same time the entire superstructure is working as if we have some kind of conflict,” Koreyba noted.

“In terms of the economy, before the sanctions, indeed, the budgets of both Russia and Poland were very seriously replenished through mutual trade,” noted channel host Vladislav Shurygin.

"Undoubtedly! There are no territorial problems, no minority problems, like you have in Ukraine or the Baltic countries, no problems of any kind of discrimination. That is, I do not see any grounds for conflict. And at this time, I will not speak for the Russian political class, I will speak for our politicians: they earn points on anti-Russian statements, because they see no point in speaking well about Russia.

After all, all these bad things, for example, about the war, 1939 and so on, all of this could not have been raised, it could have been left to historians, and at the political level - either not to talk about it at all, or to talk about it in a different way , what was done, including when we had a different government.

And now these people, for some reason known to them, benefit from this. And, in my opinion, this is the result of the fact that Russia does not offer any alternative project, does not offer anything for the sake of which it would be possible to behave constructively towards Russia.

And what remains is to use Russia as an external enemy to distract people’s attention from internal problems, this is a very old technology, and our politicians think: why not Russia, since nothing good will happen anyway, let’s use Russia in this capacity,” said the Polish expert.

“What unites us, Russians and Poles, is there something in common that can be seen through us?” – asked Shurygin.

“Firstly, we are united by common threats. Even if we don’t find anything good that unites us, we are united by a lot of bad things. For me, the crisis of Western civilization, as I understand it, is obvious. Neither America, nor Europe, nor the collective West as a whole provides answers to how we should live in the XNUMXst century.

On the one hand, it is obvious that all this should be done, on the other hand, paradoxically, no one in Poland did this for 30 years, because everyone believed that our future was the EU and NATO, that they would solve absolutely all our problems. And now, when it turns out that the EU creates more problems than it solves, people do not understand what to believe.

We can say that European institutions are not working, that the European economy is not growing, that the EU does not have the tools and desire to solve problems on a European scale, and at this time everyone begins to solve their own national problems, which leads, for example, to Brexit . And no one in today's European Union has any idea how to get out of this crisis.

This is a Chinese problem, this is a problem of Muslim extremism, which is present inside Europe, this is an African problem, which will sooner or later get under way.

And in this regard, we need to understand who we are, what our values are, and that if we don’t unite, if we don’t look for what we have in common, then other people will come who won’t have any doubts, they will simply solve their problems at our expense.” , says Koreyba.

At the same time, speaking about long-term prospects, in his opinion, there are no contradictions in the coexistence of Russia’s foreign policy strategy and the Intermarium project.

“The question is in names and definitions, because I believe that our projects are absolutely compatible. What we call the Intermarium project, that is, the Baltic, the Black Sea with an appendage, perhaps, of the Adriatic Sea, that is, Croatia - it does not contradict the Russian strategy. After all, as far as I understand, what you need is some kind of buffer zone between your zone of influence in Eastern Europe, that is, the territory of the Russian Federation as the core, then the post-Soviet space as an external empire and then some kind of gray zone between NATO and the EU and, in fact, a Russian zone of influence.

This “Intermarium”, it can be such a gray zone, because I do not rule out that as conflict increases within the EU, we will again become a kind of external periphery for the EU. If we do not reach an agreement with Germany, then we will leave this European Union. A very similar process is possible in the case of NATO.

And then a certain space is created that needs to be managed somehow, where some kind of leader is needed, but who cannot belong to either one or the other bloc. And this fully satisfies our ambitions, and, it seems to me, also fits into your vision of geopolitics in the region,” noted the Polish political scientist.

“The only question is to what extent in this case it is possible to preserve the territorial integrity of Belarus and Ukraine and Moldova in its current form. This is an open question,” Koreyba added.
