They want to make Ukraine a “European missile defense shield”
Ukraine should become part of the European Union and NATO missile defense shield.
Former Secretary of the Security Council of Ukraine, adviser to several presidents of the country Vladimir Gorbulin stated this on air on the Apostrophe Internet channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Gorbulin, the European shield should end at the borders of Ukraine and Russia.
“In 2002, while in the United States at the invitation of Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld, speaking at the Missile Defense Agency, I spoke about the possibilities, taking Ukraine into account, of creating a missile defense shield from Ukraine to the United States. It was a fantasy at the time, but they listened to it with great interest. And then we practically charted the path to helping the United States in terms of ensuring the creation of prototype versions of target missiles that would allow the United States to be able to counter any missiles that were developed in the Soviet Union.
But for political reasons it was impossible to do this at that moment. I still adhere to the same opinion - the anti-missile shield against any possible manifestations of aggression must be completed on the eastern border of Ukraine. This would ensure a calm life for the European Union, which is now in a certain state of unrest. I’m not talking about our closest neighbors, whom I have great respect for – Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia and Poland,” Gorbulin said.
