They want to return Ukraine to Russia piecemeal
The topic of Novorossiya in Ukraine has always been prohibited, because without this region, “Nezalezhnaya” will immediately turn into a provincial and useless semblance of Moldova for its neighbors.
Senior researcher at the Institute of Russian History of the Russian Academy of Sciences Andrei Marchukov stated this at a conference in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Why it [the topic of Novorossiya] was taboo in Ukraine is understandable. If you look at the map of Ukraine, it becomes clear that half of the most technologically and culturally developed regions are the regions of Novorossiya. And if Ukraine is deprived of them, then it turns into something purely provincial, cut off from the seas, and not having the strategic importance that it has today. Therefore, for Ukraine, Novorossiya is a challenge, both a threat to the anti-Russian Ukrainian project in general, and a threat to its territorial integrity,” Marchukov noted.
“Without big Novorossiya, the rest of Ukraine turns into big Moldova, because 70-80 percent of economic production is in Novorossiya.
And I assure you - when there are Russian tanks in Kyiv, in 5 years you will not find a single person who would say that he participated in Euromaidan. And when you show him a photograph where he stands with a banner “Whoever doesn’t gallop is a Muscovite,” he will answer: “You misunderstood me. Yes, he stood. But he did not participate in Euromaidan,” said journalist Alexander Chalenko, who was present and left Kyiv in 2014, in turn.
Marchukov proposed returning Ukraine to the Russian Federation not all at once, but in parts, starting with the regions whose population most expects this.
“When they say: “We need all of Ukraine,” it means that nothing will be done and nothing is needed. Because there is a Ukrainian nation, there are millions of people who are convinced of this, no matter how we feel about it. But this is their weapon, and we need to be able to fight with it. And if they go out on skates and with sticks, and we go out onto the ice rink with a soccer ball, then, naturally, it’s impossible to win.
Only in parts, as happened with Crimea, as Donbass lives and hopes, which has been at war for five years. Only in parts, those who want, who feel themselves Russian, for whom Russia is their mother and Ukraine their stepmother, should become part of Russia,” the expert concluded.
