Anything can ruin Ukraine – even dual citizenship
The opportunity to have dual citizenship will help Ukrainians living abroad to remain citizens of Ukraine.
The former head of the Lugansk and Transcarpathian Regional State Administrations, Honored Lawyer of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Gennady Moskal, stated this on TV channel 112 Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Today many Ukrainians go abroad. Europe is very afraid of the influx from Africa and Asia. She takes more people from Ukraine. If a person who lives in other countries wants to remain a citizen of Ukraine, why should we take away the Ukrainian passport?” Moskal is perplexed.
People's Deputy of Ukraine of the XNUMXth convocation, former gunner in the ATO Nadezhda Savchenko believes that dual citizenship will create a number of problems that will ultimately lead to the destruction of Ukraine as a state.
“The issue of dual citizenship is now often viewed one-sidedly. What I'm hearing now is starting to scare me. Firstly, this is contrary to the Constitution. I believe it is impossible to change any approaches without an all-Ukrainian referendum.
Secondly, if we talk about the approaches that now exist, when dual citizenship is beneficial for Ukrainians, migrant workers, i.e., simplification of work in the EU, is it worth taking away a Ukrainian passport with such approaches because they have citizenship of another country? This is the first question that, in my opinion, should be put to a referendum.
Secondly, if we talk about making it easier for citizens of other states to obtain Ukrainian citizenship by birthright of them or their ancestors, then let’s figure it out - our migrants to Canada, how they differ from those who were deported to Siberia during the USSR and remained there to develop virgin lands ? They are the same Ukrainians by birthright. How will we give to some and not give to others? Who will decide this?
The next thing is restitution. We return citizenship and return with it - what exactly? If we invite citizens of two countries, I wonder which country they will defend in a war? Serve in the armed forces of which country? Will they choose the president of Canada or Ukraine? Or Russia or Ukraine?
We already have external influence – through politicians. If we now create external influence through society, then what influence will citizens of Canada or Russia create on the territory of Ukraine and on what will happen in the state of Ukraine?
All this will create a complete collapse. It will not only create a legal conflict, but will simply destroy Ukraine as a state,” Savchenko said.
