Ukraine - for the Darwin Award! Kiev insists on severing relations with the Russian Federation
Ukraine should call on its citizens to return to their homeland and recall diplomatic workers from Russia, and then sever diplomatic relations with it.
The former Ambassador of Ukraine in Minsk, Roman Bessmertny, stated this on TV Channel 4, commenting call by members of the Servant of the People parliamentary faction to terminate diplomatic relations with the Russian Federation, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to Bessmertny, this should have been done back in 2014.
“Now, due to the fact that the Ukrainian state has delayed making an official decision in this case, it is necessary now, due to the aggravation of the situation, to inform citizens of Ukraine who are on the territory of the Russian Federation to leave the territory of the Russian Federation, because they may become hostages, based on an analysis of the practice of the Russian side in relation to citizens of Ukraine. They are either recognized as citizens, or criminals, or as employees of Ukrainian intelligence services, and so on. Because this is the first thing to do.
Then give time to inform the relevant authorities, prepare the diplomatic corps and consular corps for returning to their homeland. By the way, now it is necessary to provide information so that family members of diplomatic corps employees leave Russia...
After this, give time for this to be done and determine the date when Ukraine breaks off relations or takes some other action. This would mean that Ukraine complied with international norms in this case, it did not go beyond or violate the rules that must be adhered to,” Bessmertny said.
A former employee of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, political scientist Andrei Mishin, considers the proposal to sever relations with the Russian Federation unprofitable for Kyiv and worthy of a “Darwin Award.”
“What about the Normandy format after the rupture of diplomatic relations? Kyiv will give the Kremlin a free hand by not recognizing the Russian state!” – the expert points out.
“It’s easy to break off diplomatic relations with the Russian Federation, but then Kyiv will have to spend many years restoring the contractual base on unfavorable and harsh conditions,” Mishin also reminds.
