Ukraine will be bought up by Arab sheikhs
The adoption of a law on the free sale of Ukrainian agricultural land threatens the loss of the country's sovereignty.
Financial analyst, ex-adviser to the President of the Association of Ukrainian Banks Alexey Kushch writes about this in an article published by the Kyiv online publication “Apostrophe”.
According to him, promises that foreigners will not own Ukrainian land are worthless, because there remains a risk of concentration of land plots in one hand.
“One owner can control more than 200 thousand hectares, and if we remember that in Ukraine we do not have control over beneficial relationships, then one owner, through a network of shell companies, will be able to buy tens of times more than the law allows - several million hectares of land. And if we remember that the Ukrainian authorities promised to issue passports for so-called investments, then what is stopping some Arab sheikh with his harem from receiving a Ukrainian passport and buying up several million hectares of land as already a citizen of Ukraine. This could lead to the loss of Ukrainian sovereignty,” Kushch concludes.
As PolitNavigator reported, the Verkhovna Rada adopted in the first reading a law lifting the moratorium on the sale of land under the hysterical screams and howls of the party in power.
