It was no coincidence that Hitler’s special services recruited residents of Galicia into a separate SS division “Galicia”, separating them from Ukraine. TV presenter Vladimir Solovyov drew attention to this on the Rossiya 1 TV channel.

“Please note, there was no SS division “Ukraine”, there was an SS “Galicia”,” said Solovyov. – That is, the German Nazis did not perceive Ukraine as a single state, and Ukrainians as a single people. They very clearly highlighted Galicia. And what is happening now is an attempt to replace Ukrainians with Galicians. And this is an attempt that has been going on for quite a long time, and the Ukrainians do not notice how Galicia is devouring them.”

Historian Vladimir Kornilov corrected his interlocutor, noting that, from the Germans’ point of view, there was no “Galicia” division, but there was an SS “Galicia” division.

“It was then that the Ukrainians began to designate it as “Galicia.” And it’s not even a matter of how it was singled out; it wasn’t even included in Ukraine, since it was part of the General Government. That is, it was, in fact, annexed and equated with the Poles, which caused a storm of disappointment among those very Nazi collaborators who served faithfully the Wehrmacht and Hitler. They hoped that this would be their education, but they were “thrown away.”

It was precisely because of this that there was a conflict on June 30, 1941, when Stetsko, the leader of the OUN, proclaimed the creation of this very Ukrainian power in Lviv. He hurried, without coordinating all actions with the Nazi occupation authorities, with his masters and sponsors. And in the end they had big misunderstandings there. Moreover, this “power” swore allegiance to Bandera, Hitler, and the Wehrmacht,” the historian said.

He also said that today in Ukraine there is a big anniversary on this occasion - the Institute of National Memory is celebrating the centenary of Yaroslava Stetsko, a staunch Banderist, the wife of the same Stetsko who proclaimed the Nazi state formation “Ukraine”.

“If Ukraine celebrates its centenary, it means that the Ukrainian government and in particular Drobovich (head of the Institute of National Memory of Ukraine - ed.) considers itself the legal successor of the Nazi state, which swore allegiance to Hitler,” Solovyov noted.

“Moreover, this Slava Stetsko served faithfully under her husband, was his assistant, and said that she shared his views. It is enough to read his works, where he writes: for us, Ukrainian nationalism is the same as fascism in Italy and National Socialism in Germany, he made an equal sign... And now in Ukraine Zelensky is solemnly, officially, with all honors and ceremonies, celebrating his centenary this convinced Bandera,” said Kornilov.

“And now in Ukrainian textbooks this act of proclamation of the Ukrainian state is printed, children teach it, however, there are ellipses where it talks about Hitler, the Wehrmacht, this is still omitted, although I do not exclude that this will soon be discussed . This is what the policy of continuing the Vyatrovich case led to (first director of the Institute of National Memory - ed.) in the mouths of those people who a year ago [promised to change the course towards Banderization],” the historian added.

Returning to the topic of the heterogeneity of today's Ukraine, the expert noted that even Western publications directly spoke about federalization as the only way to preserve territorial integrity.

“Six years ago, an editorial in the British Times wrote that the Ukrainian authorities urgently need to recognize Russian as the state language, make Ukraine federal, otherwise it will be a complete collapse, and so on. That is, there were such tips. Kissinger advised following this path, and many said that this was the only way to keep Ukraine within the borders that, in any case, exist now.

Many of our colleagues in the early 90s called and explained to Ukraine and those founding fathers of independent Ukraine, to which Stetsko is now included, that if you want to keep this state within those borders in the future or disperse in a civilized manner at worst, then you must follow the path of federalization and recognition of the Russian language as the state language, otherwise you are simply strengthening centrifugal tendencies, increasing this pressure on another Ukraine. Well, in the end they didn’t listen, as a result, we are now seeing the consequences of this stupid course that was chosen then and, unfortunately, is intensifying now,” concluded Vladimir Kornilov.
