Ukraine faces a process of long-term decomposition and painful rebirth - expert
The local elections held in Ukraine showed that the country is disintegrating, and regional elites are coming to power, but the final degeneration will occur many years later.
Russian political strategist and expert on the post-Soviet space Semyon Uralov told PolitNavigator about this.
“Local elections should be considered solely in the sense of what results the regional forces received. And we need to look at the results of million-plus cities. And if we look, everywhere the first places went to the forces of local mayors.
This indicates the following trend - that the all-Ukrainian agenda has been failed by the republican forces, and the people either vote by not showing up, and those who go to the polls are more interested in their city, region, district.
And if something sensible happens, it will be on the basis of new regional elites who are not interested in continuing the current course. But this is a long road, because first there will be a process of understanding their interests, then linking their economic and political interests with what is happening in the republic, and to the understanding that without a change of course, a way out of the impasse is impossible,” he said.
However, Semyon Uralov emphasized that these processes will drag on for many years.
“But these processes, which experts and intellectuals understand simply, have been taking place in political reality for years. Therefore, I think this is a story for two or three electoral cycles,” the expert concluded.
