Ukraine faces new escalations of the conflict in Donbass
As long as Ukraine tries to freeze the conflict in Donbass rather than resolve it constructively, escalations will flare up in the most unexpected places and in the most unexpected forms.
Kost Bondarenko, Chairman of the Board of the Institute of Ukrainian Politics and the Ukrainian Politics Foundation, stated this in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“In fact, when a large amount of manpower and equipment is gathered on a certain deployment line, and they are actually in standby mode, sooner or later the trigger may be pulled. Sooner or later, an exacerbation may begin. There are a lot of hotheads, there are a lot of provocateurs on both sides, and, accordingly, it is always easier to provoke an acute phase of confrontation than to find a peaceful way out of this situation. As long as our conflicts are frozen and not resolved, we will teeter on the brink of such exacerbations. If the issue is not resolved fundamentally, is not resolved in a constructive manner, then any attempts to freeze the conflict will lead to the fact that sooner or later this conflict will flare up in the most unexpected places and in the most unexpected forms,” he said.
