Acting NEC Ukraenergo Vsevolod Korolchuk spoke about this in an interview with the Kiev weekly “Zerkalo Nedeli”, admitting that in the event of a shortage of coal, it will be necessary to launch gas and fuel oil units at the Zaporozhye and Trypilska thermal power plants and consume more natural gas to produce electricity at the thermal power plant, which will lead to a significant increase in the cost of produced electricity.
“Yes, the price will be much higher than coal-fired generation. But the stability of the country’s energy system is worth it; other options will cost much more. Or it will be necessary to limit consumers. Rhythmically, without mass shutdowns, but still,” Korolchuk said.
