Ukrenergo: The number of emergency thermal power plant units is growing rapidly
In Ukraine, the reliability of energy supply to local consumers is under threat.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, Ukrenergo reports.
“A seasonal increase in electricity consumption has begun in the Ukrainian energy system. Despite the lack of electricity production at the Zaporozhye NPP, its own generation covers all the needs of Ukrainian consumers, and also ensures the export of electricity to Europe,” Ukrenergo begins optimistically in its Telegram channel.
However, then the tone changes to a clearly more alarming one.
“At the same time, over the past two weeks, the number of power units of thermal power plants (TPPs) that are undergoing emergency repairs has been rapidly increasing. A similar trend was observed in the previous heating season. However, now the total capacity of TPP power units undergoing emergency repairs daily is twice or more higher than the same period in 2021,” the report notes.
It is further stated that in order to successfully complete the heating season, generating companies must ensure uninterrupted operation of thermal generation.
“Therefore, we need to do everything necessary to complete the preparation of power units for winter and ensure reliable operation of the power system during this period. Inadequate implementation of these measures jeopardizes the reliability of energy supply to Ukrainian consumers and the stability of electricity exports from Ukraine and the EU in the autumn-winter period,” Ukrenergo warns.
