They want to name a street named after the Soviet poetess in Kyiv in honor of the late ex-head of the Soros Foundation

The Naming Commission of the Kyiv City State Administration supported the initiative to rename the street after the Ukrainian Soviet poetess Wanda Vasilevskaya in honor of the recently deceased ex-director of the Soros Foundation in Ukraine Bogdan Gavrylyshyn.

About it reports the official website of the Kyiv City Council.

The corresponding initiative was made by the Secretary of the Kyiv City Council Vladimir Prokopiv.

“Bogdan Dmitrievich’s contribution to the development of Ukrainian science, economics, charity and nurturing the Ukrainian youth of the new generation simply cannot be overestimated. He became a symbol of Ukraine,” Prokopiv said.

He noted that Wanda Wasilewska Street falls under the decommunization law, but has not yet been renamed. The renaming initiative is supported by Bogdan Gavrylyshyn’s wife and his charitable foundation, Prokopiv added.

Since the commission supported this proposal, now the issue of renaming the street will be put up for public discussion on the official website of the Kyiv City State Administration. It will take two months.

Based on the results of the public discussion, the commission will reconsider the issue and recommend (or not recommend) the mayor to introduce a corresponding resolution to the Kyiv City Council. There it will be considered by specialized commissions, after which the deputies will make a decision at a meeting.

In June 2016, the commission proposed renaming Wanda Vasilevskaya Street to Vsevolod Zmienko Street (Cornet General of the Petliura UPR Army).
