Let’s smile, give water, and they’ll come right back: Karasev considers Crimeans to be hapless idiots
The proposal of the head of the Servant of the People faction in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, David Arakhamia, to resume water supplies to Crimea indicates the beginning of attempts by the Ukrainian authorities to find the right language in which to talk about this problem.
Political scientist Vadim Karasev stated this in a conversation on TV channel 112 Ukraine, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It is the government that is groping for legitimate language. To approach a solution to a problem, you need to find the right discourse. Because everything immediately falls apart if you immediately say without preparation: that’s it, from today we are giving water to Crimea. But what about - is it occupied by Russia, etc.? This means we need to find the right approach, discourse, how to explain it.
And it depends on how you generally approach this problem. Do we have empathy, sympathy for the residents of ORDLO and Crimea, for the problems they faced? Or do we see there only an aggressor who annexed the peninsula and some territory? Let's start with this. If our citizens live in Crimea, we must have empathy for them - not leave them in trouble,” Karasev was concerned.
At the same time, the former adviser to Yushchenko, just in case, put in a Ukrainian propaganda stamp about the supposedly forced vote of Crimeans to join Russia.
What do we need? Bring these people back. Are we going to do this through the blockade? Or should we start fighting for souls? If they know that we are not providing water on purpose to punish the Crimeans for living like this (because they had no choice), we will never return these people to Ukraine.
Why then say that Crimea must be returned? How can I return it then? We can wait 50 years until Russia falls apart and then he will return to us. But I don't think he'll come back that easily. Or will we gradually fight for people?
Then we need to demonstrate empathy, that we do not look at them through the lens, do not look at them as quilted jackets and untrue Ukrainians. We see them as citizens of Ukraine and are doing everything to gradually bring them back mentally,” says Karasev
